The client had been quoted £1375-00 + vat for a new damp proof course in a 1960's semi detached house. A physical dpc was noted on the external elevations which would almost certainly indicate the same on the internal walls. Neil suspected that the dpc was bridged by the wall plaster and asked if a section of skirting board could be removed. The client agreed to this and the photo confirms that the wall plaster is indeed bridging the damp proof course.
The cost of effective remedial work came to £376 + vat saving the client approximately £1000 after paying my survey fee.
When the wall plaster was cut back from the floor the original damp proof course was exposed and is perfectly functional. Minimal disruption and minimal cost to the client who was very happy with this result.
