I have recently found myself conflicted as to how or if I carry on surveying during the current coronavirus situation.
The reason that I find myself so conflicted is due to the unclear advice provided by the government at this time. I am not criticising the government in any way as I cannot imagine how difficult it is for those in power to deal with this unprecedented situation, but on one hand, they say that essential travel only is permitted and on the other hand, they are saying that if you cannot work from home that you should continue to work if it is safe to do so, ensuring that you comply with the advice government regarding health and safety measures to ensure that the risk of transmission of the virus is prevented.
I cannot carry out my work from home and my interpretation of all the government data that I have been able to obtain states that I should carry on with my work. With this in mind, I have only been carrying out surveys on properties where the survey can be carried out safely i.e. unoccupied properties or when the occupiers are prepared to observe the relevant social distancing and ideally when the occupiers are prepared to vacate the property for the duration of the survey.
I do carry a range of sanitizing products and the appropriate PPE and I ensure that any surfaces that I have come into contact with are sanitized before commencing the survey and again when I leave the property. I will only consider carrying out a survey following an appropriate 'Risk Assessment' to ensure that I can do so ensuring my own personal safety and that of my clients/occupiers. In reality, I have reduced the number of surveys that would normally have been carried out by 90% in the past 2 weeks.
If you do require a survey please feel free to contact me by email-'[email protected]' or via our office number 07584849224 and we can discuss whether it is appropriate to proceed or otherwise. If you require advice on particular issues with regards 'damp' we will be happy to assist you wherever possible even if this can only be provided remotely.
Thank you for your understanding and co-operation during these very difficult and uncertain times. Please stay safe.
